Dark matter is a hypothetical type of matter distinct from ordinary matter such as protons, neutrons, electrons, and neutrinos.
مادة غير مرئية يتوقع الفلكيون وجودها بسبب ثقل في حركة المجرات ما يستدعي وجود مادة اخرى تؤدي الى ثقل حركة المجرات في الكون، واذا ما كانت هذه المادة المظلمة موجودة فعلا فانها سوف تشكل حوالي 99 بالمئة من مادة الكون!
A dark nebula or absorption nebula is a type of interstellar cloud that is so dense that it obscures the light from objects behind it, such as background stars and emission or reflection nebulae. The extinction of the light is caused by interstellar dust grains located in the coldest, densest parts of larger[clarification needed]molecular clouds. Clusters and large complexes of dark nebulae are associated with Giant Molecular Clouds. Isolated small dark nebulae are called Bok globules. Like other interstellar dust or material, things it obscures are only visible using radio waves in radio astronomy or infrared in infrared astronomy.
كتل من الغازات والأتربة الواقعة في الفضاء بين النجوم، وهي بعيدة عن النجوم الساطعة لذلك لا تعكس نورها فتصبح هذه السدم معتمة ومظلمة ولا تشاهد الا من خلال حجبها للنجوم والمجرات التي تقع خلفها. ومن الامثلة على هذا النوع من السدم كيس الفحم الشمالي في كوكبة الدجاجة، او سديم راس الحصان في كوكبة الجبار.

الفترة الزمنية التي يستغرقها الجرم السماوي للدوران حول محوره دورة واحدة ، وتحدد عادة بين شروقين متتاليين للشمس او عبور احد النجوم خط الزوال او عند منتصف الليل. ولكل كوكب طول يوم مختلف عن الاخر، فالارض تدوز حول نفسها كل 23 ساعة و 56 دقيقة،ويوم عطارد 59 يوما، ويوم بلوتو 6,4 ساعة
